TWC’s Sarah Coleman and Tom Fender hosted a webinar to present latest channel and category performance trends in independent convenience stores.

 

We covered that:

  • TWC has identified a £1bn sales growth opportunity through independent convenience stores by achieving 1 more transaction per store per day & 10% of those transactions to contain 1 more item
  • There are 36,000 independent convenience stores in the UK – the share of convenience stores which are independent has not declined in 10 years
  • There are 3.5bn visits to independent convenience stores per annum
  • The combined turnover of symbol & indies is comparable to that of Sainsbury’s
  • While volume and value sales are under pressure, TWC revealed where growth is coming from, and put a spotlight on ‘health’ /better-for-you products as well as the impact of NPD on channel sales and emerging brands.

The debit and credit card usage of 10.2m UK consumers provides wholesalers, retailers and suppliers with store performance and shopper demographics across 40,000 convenience / grocery stores. We can tell you who is shopping at each store (or pick a fascia, chain, region) and we will report how they’re performing, who is shopping in them and where else they’re shopping (in foodservice outlets as well as other stores)
